Well, I remembered how to start the mower and did the front lawn until the mower handle broke, so into the shed for a bolt, two washers, and a wingnut. Gary and Colin dropped off three bags, and Bernard unloaded his truck. Hooray!

Tuesday, June 10, 2025

I started the day outside by seven barrows of grass to the (now) four bins, adding cardboard and scooping out soil from ahead of the march of bins.

I continue to carry house-plants out to the table.

I mowed a three-deck wide plot through the weeds at Stephen's. I should do another mow tomorrow, and then a rotary hoe on Saturday.

Set eighteen layered gooseberry plants in cans along the "this year" western side of the driveway. Plus a stray maple tree.

Saturday June 14, 2025

I set out five dozen redberry bush seeds in two 25-litre cans.

Today was National Rotary-Hoe Day in parts of my yard. I se the hoe as a weed-trimmer. Here I am making out a bed for Iris and Tiger Lillies.

The small tubs each with three or four plants (in blossom) are a pleaser.

Around my three 25-litre pails I have arranged twelve small post of soil. The runners from my three "source" tubs find the soil and pose a floret as a potential root source.

Once a week I look for any stray runners that have escaped the small tubs and drape them across the small tubs of soil. What could be easier?

I need to remind myself that this is multiplied by a ten-foot roof and about eight feet of that, that is, 80 square feet. Also if we have had no rain the days before, hose down the trough to flush out wind-blown matter before the rain starts.

And while I think of it, during summer months when four days have passed with nothing secured in a rain pail, I should be hosing seedlings every two days.
