Canada Post’s Contribution to Waste

You live in a remote settlement served by Canada Post.

You have purchased, for about $100, a simple bowl mixer with one glass bowl that rotates on a turntable.

For some reason (NOT dropping it) the glass bowl cracks.

The warranty states that you can get a free replacement by mailing the entire system back to the manufacturer or importer (in somewhere like Milford Ohio USA)

Canada Post will ship it back to Milford Ohio if you fork out about $70.

This will bring your cost of mixing cakes to $170.

And you will wait two weeks at least to get a working mixer.

Or you could walk back into the local store and for $100 be back in business.

So you fork out another $100 and toss the bowl-less mixer into the landfill site.

Or else the bowl-less mixer takes up space in your kitchen or shed.

You toss the bowl, a decision you reach by packing up the mixer and carting it down to Canada Post, and then carting it home again.

You decide that whenever you are near a department store you will pop in to see if you can find a matching mixing bowl – in any colour or pattern – that can be swung into action when the new bowl breaks.
