From what little I have experienced in my previous life (grin) as a member of a team of primitive men hunting, let's say, deer, we locate a deer and stalk it. The deer begins to trot, say, due West, and as it trots, we fan out to enclose the deer's predicted passage through the forest. Had I spent a few years droving sheep or cattle, out flankers would have chivied the herd into a mob heading in the direction we wanted. There are YouTube videos that show cattle drives in The Wild West.

Suppose that in the example in the first paragraph you are the European Union.

Your team should analyse the opponents (Russie/USA) and determine where they are headed, and based on these findings, set out flanking guards to herd the opponent into the direction you wish them to head.

How then did the EU get blindsided?
