Another Cover-up Job

Wednesday, June 01, 2011 Today’s Toronto star carries the story “ Artist says city erased mural it paid him to paint

Today's Toronto Star carries a story about a mural in the seedy Junction area.

Am I missing something here?

Not about the "graffiti" angle, but the city paying $18,000 presumably for administration, labor and materials for 122 yards of paint on an essentially flat surface?

6 of them in all, that's $3,000 each.

For, say, 30 days.

That's $100 a day.

But then they each "did" 20 yards (122 divided by six)

In 30 days.

I've tried slicing it differently.

Say you need 2 people for 1 day to blanket 122 yards in gray paint.

That means the remaining 4 are getting the same money for less (days) work, or else get paid to sit and drink coffee and watch the first 2.

etc etc etc.

The Star doesn't show us the entire 122 yards, just enough to make people like me think "Sheesh! An air-compressor to blanket the wall, less than 26 letter stencils, and 3 days to do the cyclists ..."

Saturday morning I sat with Bill while he got a brake job done on the Camry.

Life time guarantee.

On parts.

Labor would be billed at $97/hour.

When I bill out at $110 an hour, the Bills of this world gasp in amazement.

Twiddling a spanner would net me $13/hour less.

I'm in the wrong job.

Let us spray
