Exporting to Folders

Christopher Greaves AuMac057.png

I work in parallel on five projects. Load-balancing between the Proof Listeners allows me to record one chapter of a different project each day, and so allows a PL an average of five days to PL and report back.

Because I flip between five project folders (not just on a daily basis, but as soon as any PL reports back, I turn my attention to that project) I set my folder preferences (Ctrl+P, Directories) to empty folder paths.

Essay #1

I fire up Audacity 3.1.3 and use Ctrl+Shift+I to import the file “L:\CKDennis\Digger Smith\00.flac”. I edit the track, then use Ctrl+Shift+E to export the track. The track overwrites the earlier version.

I close the track, then use Ctrl+Shift+I to import the track ‘L:\Henry Lawson\Short Stories in Prose and Verse\SSPOV_16.flac”. I edit the track, then use Ctrl+Shift+E to export the track.

Audacity 3.1.3 appears to be using the first folder for export, whereas I expected it to use the second folder.

Audacity 3.1.3 is correctly going to “The last directory used for that [export] operation” but of course, I had hoped that Audacity would use the latest directory used for any operation.

That is, I want/expect the exported file to be returned to where it came from, not some folder unrelated to the track.

Essay #2

On this effort I leave my preferences in place, load the first track, edit and export it, and then exit Audacity, saving the project as “00.aup3” in the parent folder for the track 00.flac.

I load the second track, edit and export it, and then exit Audacity, saving the project as “SSPOV_16.aup3” in the parent folder for the track SSPOV_16.flac.

I quit Audacity

I now have two project files and two related flac files.

Essay #3

O load the first project 00.aup3 and to my delight the track 00.aup3 appears. I edit, then use Ctrl+Shift+E to export the track.

Audacity prompts me to export the track from the first folder to the folder for the second project - because the Most recently Used folder for Export was, of course, the second project folder.
