Loading Programs from the Keyboard

In a previous lesson we learned how to use the Ctrl-Esc and Esc sequences to access the pop-up menu.

In the example above, note the command "Run", and note that the letter "R" is underlined.

I have found that when I use Ctrl-Esc followed by the letter "R", I get a little input box:

The first time you try Ctrl-Esc "R" your input box will appear empty, but from them on, you'll see the name of the latest program you loaded this way. In my example it is clear that I have loaded Microsoft Word using the Ctrl-Esc Run menu system.

If your pop-up menu has more than one item identified with an underlined "R", you might have to tap the letter "R" two or more times to get to the "Run" item, thus: Ctrl-Esc, "R", "R".

In the little input box, type, or type over the selected text "Notepad", but without the quotes:

Notice that the "OK" command button is selected by default.

Tap the "Enter" key.

Here's Notepad!

Leave Notepad there and try another exercise using the RUN command:

Ctrl-Esc, R, "Sol" (without the quotes. Here's the game of Solitaire!

Leave Solitaire there and try another exercise using the RUN command:

Ctrl-Esc, R, "Explorer" (without the quotes. Here's the Windows File Explorer!

In the next lesson I'll show you how to zip around multiple programs faster than you can blink.
