Ctrl-X - To Cut the Selection

Just as Ctrl-C can be used to Copy material to the clipboard and Ctrl-V can be used to Paste material to the clipboard, Ctrl-X can be used to CUT material from a document or spreadsheet and load it to the clipboard.

Hence Copy-And-Paste is Ctrl-C followed by Ctrl-V.

Cut-And-Paste is Ctrl-X followed by Ctrl-V.

Ctrl-C when you are COPYING; Ctrl-X when you are CUTTING.

If it helps, think of the “X” as a pair of scissors, lacking the finger-holes!
