Stuff Your Manager Wishes You’d Use

Topic 1: Billing Tasks

Using Notepad to keep track of your time spent on the phone, automatically. Well, with one click, at any rate. Finally, getting honest with yourself about where the time goes.

Topic 2: Calendar

Calendar generates a 1-page monthly calendar for your business needs.

The Microsoft Word Calendar Wizard is restricted to a seven-day week.

Calendar overcomes that limitation allowing you any number of days in a week. In any language. Start your work week on any day.

If you manage an oil-rig with ten days on and four days off, Calendar will produce a calendar that suits your schedule.

If you need only five business days and a “weekend” column, Calendar will build you a six-column calendar.

Just another way for me to make Microsoft look sick.

Topic 3: Colour

Color will speed up and enhance your delivery of Word documents and PowerPoint presentations.

Download, Install it, click on the drop-down list, and say "Wow!".

In Microsoft Word - in the current selection which may span several pages of a document - you get to color all the Characters, Words, Sentences or Paragraphs.

in Microsoft PowerPoint you can apply color to all

selected characters, words, sentences or paragraphs in the current text box.

selected characters, words, sentences or paragraphs in all selected text boxes in the slide.

selected characters, words, sentences or paragraphs in all selected text boxes in all selected slides.

selected characters, words, sentences or paragraphs in all selected text boxes in all slides in the presentation.

Pizzazz!

Topic 4: Excel Chart Manipulator

Not for the faint-of-heart.

Turn Excel into a presentation manager with, literally, THOUSANDS of ways to control what gets shown, what does not. Use the relative distance across the chart to affect the font sizes!

Topic 5: Excel Optimal Page Zoomer

Smart page zoomer for Excel. Works out the best zoom factor BEFORE you print.

Who Knew?

No more embarrassing printouts with one column hanging over on the right-hand page, or the total line all by itself on the next set of papers.

Think and act Green and Save Trees by having Excel calculate the optimum zoom factor, in Portrait mode, landscape, or both before you Print.

Topic 6: Indexer

If you aren’t building indexes in your documents, you are costing your clients time. What’s not to like about a 1-click method that delivers a professional index to your document in SECONDS.

Why you didn’t know you could build an index in Microsoft Word, and what to do about it.

The Good News on co-operative concordance tables.

Also a bit about rules-based processing and why you should refuse programs that don’t offer it.

Topic 7: Informator

Statistics for K:\LunchnLearnnEARN2.doc

479 ---> 1791 Words.

290 ---> 838 Unique Words.

27 ---> 127 Unique paragraphs.

11.16 ---> 8.52 FOG index.

80% ---> 90% Comprehension

533.3% ---> 271.4% Empathy

0.42 ---> 0.44 Complexity

Need I say more?

OK.

This is just one of the ways I target my written material to my readers, editors and clients.

Also: How to generate truly random passwords based on today’s date and time, and why you love Ctrl-V when setting up a new account.

Topic 8: Refabricator

If you spend a lot of time cut-and-pasting to shuffle text around in incoming documents, why not do what the clever Human Resource Departments do and use Refabricator.

It is heuristic, and, like a cat or a dog, will quickly learn what pleases you and start doing it all for you automatically.

Including the formatting and layout.

Play more golf, spend more time dawdling over lunch and STILL go home early.

Topic 9: Trailblazer

Here’s another complex document with big words.

How important are they? How often do they crop up, and in what context?

Trailblazer Blazes a Trail through the thickest forest or words and makes comprehension easier. You’ll look, act and sound a lot brighter than you think you are.

Track and trail a word, a string, or combine this with Indexer and Trail Blaze every Interesting Words in the document.

(Where was Microsoft when I was writing this program?)

Topic 10: Under-The-Hood

Over 600 Word macros to help users of Microsoft Word. Or to rephrase it mildly, 600 reasons why Microsoft is making you do drudge work instead of using your brain.

Have you ever tried to apply consistent auto formatting to 37 tables in a single document? How can they have the nerve to call it “Auto” when it’s so manual?

Why “Save As Paragraph” and “Save As Paragraph Title Case” are my two favorite macros at five o’clock in the morning.

Also: Am I really the only person in the world who builds triangular tables in Microsoft Word? Why is that?
