Speedup - Why do it?( Up )
You machine is running "slow".
Before you rush out and by a new computer, try fixing your current one.
It isn't difficult to do.
It is faster than transferring all your files across.
You don't believe me?
Think carefully about what is involved, in total, of moving to a new machine.
Sure you have your latest backup .
Sure you have all your software installation disks.
Now you need to copy from the backup drive to the new computer all your document and data files, and you'll be copying a complete archival history, so you'll then want to go through all those folders and weed out the truly superfluous files (NEVER delete files from your backup drive)
And you'll need to re-install all that desktop software and reset the options you have carefully configured over the years.
Plus any utility software.
Then you have to wait for a software technician to come in and locate your mailbox and Spam white list filters.
And you mustn't run a backup until your are CERTAIN that everything is in place; after all, you don't want to overwrite your backup copy of your mailbox with a small virgin mailbox containing only a welcome email from Microsoft.
Each of the following pages identifies a specific task you can perform by yourself to help speedup the computer.
You can run the tasks independently, although you will learn that some tasks are better run after others. For example, cleaning up the registry ideally follows from deleting unnecessary files.
The software is freely available from the web.
Before we go any further, backup your computer .
Then read the section Nightly .
