Speedup - Easy Cleaner Unnecessary files
Easy Cleaner was written by Toni Helenius; his current web page is at http://personal.inet.fi/business/toniarts/
From Toni's web site, download and install the latest version. I am using version 2.0.6.380.
The program works right out of the box.
Run the program to get to the welcome screen:
Choose the Unnecessary command to remove unnecessary files.
In the top-left corner of the window you can see that I have selected (Ctrl-Click) my boot partition (C:) and the data partition (D:) of my 100GB hard drive.
As well I have selected drives G: and P: which are TrueCrypt encrypted drives maintained as files on my partition D:.
You will probably have only your hard drive C:.
Do not remove unnecessary files from your backup drives.
Ever.
In the center of the window I have elected to remove four sets of files.
I am not about to delete my cookies or my MS Office recent files (those are the files that appear at the foot of each File menu).
My browser (Firefox) is set to delete browsing history after a set number of days.
Choose the Find command and Easy Cleaner will start examining your hard drive(s)
After a process that may take ten minutes, Easy Cleaner will report the number of files found and the space that will be freed up by deleting these files.
I am of the opinion that in terms of speeding up the computer, it is not the space that matters as much as the number of files that Windows feels it needs to read in order to get anything done.
Choose the Delete All command.
Easy Cleaner will delete the unnecessary files.
A few files will be locked up by Windows; you can safely ignore them.
Choose the Close button and exit from Easy Cleaner.
