Some time after Saturday, October 25, 2025 – the day I built two tubs in the kitchen – I made a pail with two ¾" wide slits in the bottom, dumped in paper, a gallon of food scraps, more paper, and rested it atop the smaller tub.
Since that time (three weeks ago?) I have tapped the coffee grounds into the pail.
This morning I raised the pai; and found worms crawling atop the tub. I believe that some worms have hatched into the tub.
If my theory is correct tben sorting through the tub should receal worms.
Otherwise spotting castings on top of the tub will confirm a worm population.
Otherwise placing the tub on a pail lid (or at a pinch a dinner-plate) should reveal castings on the dinner plate. We will see.
If this works then I have found an easy way to make colonies that I can give away.
I planted four orange pips in a single can for the porch.
By mid-day I have shoveled a clear path to the meter, and a narrow path to the Canion Bayley Glacier. I shook a second can of salt over the first half of my narrow path. My theory is that the saline melt water will self-distribute to the glacier.

I email Colleen Sproule, and just in case, add a row to the Postcards table.
I am settled into my sprouting. My (gherkin) jar takes in a half-cup of mung beans, soaks for 24 hours, then begins a week-long cycle of rinse-each-morning, by which time I have finished eating my bucket of salad (sprouts, beetroot, animal protein, grated carrot, …) and begin the cycle again.
