Recording a Macro
Just to get you going, we’ll do a little demonstration together. We’re going to record and playback a little macro to generate our telephone number. As well, we’ll assign the macro the key combination Ctrl+Shift+V, (V for Voice!) so that we can generate our telephone number with the keyboard.
From the menu system choose Tools, Macro, Record.
In the text box, type KeyVoicePhone.
In the dialogue box choose the keyboard button.
Hold down Ctrl+Shift and tap the letter v.
Assign and close this dialogue by tapping the Enter key twice.
You should notice three things at this point:
A small toolbar with a stop button has appeared.
A cassette tape is attached to your mouse (!)
The status bar at the foot of the screen shows REC.
These three visual clues let you know that a recording session is in progress. Until we stop recording, everything we type will be recorded.
Key in your voice telephone number like this: 416-555-1212
From the menu system choose Tools, Macro, Stop Recording.
The three signs of macro recording should disappear.
Try holding down the Ctrl+Shift keys and tap the "V" key just once. Your phone number should be generated in the document.
