Here’s a thought experiment: Suppose that you are suicidal, standing on the platform, threatening to throw yourself under a train. Two bystanders attempt to drag you away.
One bystander wants to drag you away to the Eastern end of the platform where there is an exit and access to medical help.
One bystander wants to drag you away to the Western end of the platform where there is an exit and access to medical help.
Does it matter which end of the platform you are taken to? Clearly not.
The worst scenario is that both bystanders let go of your arms and take the time to argue the toss about which end of the platform provides faster access to an ambulance.
(Meanwhile the train pulls in to the station and you jump ...)
If First Past The Post voting system is bad, and if either alternative option is better, then what really counts is that we move away from FPTP voting.
This goes straight into my “Failures In Advertising” bucket.
