Why Correspondence Courses?
Funny you should ask!
A long, long time ago I lived in the desert town of Southern cross in the Yilgarn goldfields of Western Australia.
I attended primary school ("elementary school" in parts of North America), but was a year ahead of myself when it came time for me to go to High School ("secondary school").
To make things worse, there was no High School in town; the nearest high school was in merredin, 70 miles to the west, and while I enjoyed riding my new bicycle ….
So I was enrolled in correspondence school, a watered-down version of Australia's School Of The Air .
I am ashamed to admit that I, and the two other lads my age, did poorly. We were left to our own devices to conduct crude physics experiments on soil, using a sheet of galvanized roofing iron and a rather large fire in the school yard, or to inventing plausible reasons why we had to hike over the far side of the water pipeline to btain a particular specimen of gum-leaf, …
It was a good year, and I miss those times so much.
