Shutdown Or Restart?
If you have run the BackUp.BAT job by now you might be frustrated with the Shutdown command.
Good news!
The command can also effect a re-boot of the system.
More Good news: We can implement a delay, giving us time to interrupt, and hence inhibit, the shutdown or reboot.
ShutDown.exe -s -f -t 00
Above is the “instant forced shutdown” command taken from our batch file ShutDown.BAT
ShutDown.exe -s -f -t 30
Above you will see a simple modification that will make the command wait 30 seconds before shutting down. This gives you enough time to interrupt the process.
(You can use Ctrl-Break, followed by Enter; then tap the letter “Y” and the Enter key).
ShutDown.exe -r -t 30
Above you see the ShutDown.exe command being used to restart the system, again with a 30-second delay.
You can learn more about the ShutDown.exe command at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/317371
I have re-written my ShutDown.bat to look like this:
Title %0 - Shut down the computer system ShutDown.exe -r -t 30 REM END
At Long Last! A Working Version!
