RoboCopy New And Later Files
If you have downloaded and installed RoboCopy, you’ll find a Word document “RoboCopy.doc” in the folder “C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools\”.
Please take a quick look at the command-line syntax.
Here is an example of a small RoboCopy job that works for me:
Title %0 Synchronise drive X to Y RoboCopy X:\ Y:\ /s /r:0 /w:1
The batch file sjob is to synchronise the contents of drive Y: with drive X:. I have another small job that synchronises the contents of drive X: with drive Y:.
Title %0 Synchronise drive Y to X RoboCopy Y:\ X:\ /s /r:0 /w:1
What do the parameters mean?
/S
“Copies subdirectories (excluding empty ones)”.
I’m not too interested in folder structures unless the folders contain files. I am interested in copying every file in every folder, so I want RoboCopy to explore the entire folder tree on any nominated drive.
/R:0
“Specifies the number of retries on failed copies”.
To me, failed copies occur when RobCopy tries to copy a protected system file, or an encrypted file currently being used by TrueCrypt.
There’s little point in retrying those files; they won’t be available to me.
/W:1
“Specifies the wait time between retries”.
... and so there’s no point in waiting for them, either!
The example command lines above will be sufficient to get your backup up and running.
